Zermatt is car-free!

You have two ways to reach the resort:

By train

In Brig and Visp, the railway has a direct connection to Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn’s recently developed narrow-gauge railway, which reaches Zermatt in a one-and-a-half- hour journey through the romantic Matter valley.

The new Lötschberg Base Tunnel from Frutigen (BE) to Raron (VS) significantly shortens the journey time by train to Zermatt.

Zermatt is also the beginning or end point of the world-famous Glacier Express (St. Moritz/Davos–Zermatt).

By car

Zermatt is car-free. Access for private transport is only allowed as far as Täsch (5 km from Zermatt). The road from Täsch to Zermatt is restricted to public transport.

The Matterhorn Terminal offers 2,100 covered parking spaces. In addition, there are over 1,000 parking spaces (covered and uncovered) with private providers. Some car parks offer a taxi service to and from Zermatt.

The Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn shuttle trains run between Täsch and Zermatt every 20 minutes. At Matterhorn Terminal Täsch, you can change directly and comfortably to the modern shuttle trains. The train journey to Zermatt Bahnhofplatz – right in the heart of the Matterhorn village – takes 12 minutes.

In Zermatt itself, you can get around on foot, by bike, by horse-drawn carriage, electric taxi, or by e-bus.
